Pride and Sentimentality
The end of the school year brings about some melancholic feelings in me. First, Adam graduated from community college with no fanfare. He didn't attend the ceremony or have any kind of celebration, when suddenly yesterday, out of nowhere (perhaps an empty gas tank), he said, "Shouldn't I be getting money for graduating?" He done good, if not all he was capable of. I am getting mentally prepared to have him leave the coop/nest/stinkpad and go away for his last two years of college. I honestly don't know how he is going to make it on his own. Or maybe, how I will be able to let go and let him try.
Eli, was invited to a high school honors night as a freshman. It was for academic acheivement. He is high honor roll and I was a proud mama. *we only had to sit through 3 hours of senior honors* He had his final band concert a week before, and he had a small trumpet solo, done to perfection. Again, I had a pretty good view of him playing and I saw those fingers and was amazed at his growth and maturity.
Tonight was Cal's 8th grade promotion/awards night. He did receive a special award for Courteousness. Somehow that detention last week for tree stumping another child did not take him out of the running. He also made high honors for the whole year.
I was involved with the Jr. High PTO throughout the last few years, and it is a small contribution I do feel good about, and now that chapter is closed.
